RICHMOND, Va. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (8-7, 2-4 A-10) fell to host Virginia Commonwealth (9-6, 6-1 A-10), 3-1, today in Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) action.
Dana-Lee De Gannes (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago/Maraval) scored for Lock Haven. She had three shots for LHU as she did all she could to spark the attack.
VCU held a slight 9-8 advantage in shots and a 4-2 advantage in corners. All four goals today were scored in the first half.
Host-VCU took a 1-0 lead just 1:21 in on a goal from Shannon Pereira. In the 18
th minute, the Rams made it 2-0.
Lock Haven got one back on a goal by De Gannes. Her goal came in the 19
th minute and cut the VCU-lead to 2-1.
Virginia Commonwealth capped a big first half with another goal in the 29
th minute which stretched the halftime lead to 3-1.
LHU will next play at the University of Richmond on Sunday, October 21 at 12 p.m. Following Sunday's contest at Richmond, Lock Haven will return home to close the 2018 regular season. LHU will host Monmouth on Friday, October 26 at 3 p.m., before closing A-10 regular-season play on Sunday, October 28 at 1 p.m. vs. La Salle.
