WASHINGTON D.C. – The Lock Haven University men's soccer team (6-7-3) used a 5
th minute goal from Redshirt Senior
Gage Rims (Rosedale, Md./Loch Raven) to jump out to an early lead that the Bald Eagles never relinquished as they downed The University of The District of Columbia (6-9-1) 2-0 in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon in Washington D.C.
Early in the game,
Brian Flatter (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) placed a beautiful corner kick near the back post as Rims found himself unmarked and was able to head the ball into the back of the net for his first career goal and give LHU an early 1-0 lead.
Lock Haven was able to extend their lead to 2-0 in the 64
th minute when Flatter received a touch pass from
Beckham Sibiski (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) and snuck the ball past the keeper for his seventh goal of the season.
The Bald Eagles outshot the Firebirds 16-10 in the game with a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal. Rims, Flatter and
Shane Colegrove (Athens, Pa./Athens) led the LHU offense with three shots apiece.
A strong all around showing by the LHU defense led to the team's fifth shutout of the season. Goalkeeper
Jason Keller (Port Matilda, Pa./State College) made his third start of the season and play a solid game, consistently directing the defense and recording four saves.
Lock Haven will wrap of the regular season Saturday, October 27 when the team travels to California (Pa.) to take on the Vulcans. That game is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff.
