CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's soccer team (11-4-1, 11-4-1 PSAC) capped their remarkable 2018 regular season in style after the Bald Eagles downed California (Pa.) University (1-14-2, 0-14-2 PSAC), 3-1 today on the road.
The win pushed Lock Haven to 34 points in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play and LHU will return to action on Tuesday, October 30 in PSAC Quarterfinal. Tuesday's opponent and location is still to be determined.
The win kept LHU in line to possibly host a home game on Tuesday in quarterfinal action.
Entering today's matchups, all eight teams were set and locked in for the PSAC tournament, but seeds and matchups were not. Two games are still set for 5 p.m. starts today, and East Stroudsburg and Clarion are scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start. The West Chester – IUP match was suspended at halftime. Marah Foltz (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield) netted a pair of goals today, which pushed her to 17 on the season, tying the LHU single-season school record.
Adding to the scoring was Taylor Moritz (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) who scored her first career goal.
The Haven now has 11 wins, the most since 2004 when the Bald Eagles finished the season with a record of 11-7-2.
The Lock Haven back four had another stout performance including Moritz, Jordan Shoff (York, Pa./York Suburban), Erika Landis (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run), and Janelle Swartz (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata).
Bree Hilty (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) had another strong performance in net for the Bald Eagles and finished with 6 saves.
Foltz put LHU up 1-0 in the 17th minute when she collected a pass from Ella Jones (Mohnton, Pa./Reading Area CC) and calmly slotted the ball past the keeper.
In the 26th minute, Moritz collected a pass from Foltz on the left side of the box and fired a shot into the top right corner for her first career goal.
Early in the second half, Gabby Kishbaugh (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) played a perfect pass to Foltz, who collected the ball and placed a shot past the keeper for the Bald Eagles third and final goal of the game.
