LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University volleyball team (9-15, 4-11 PSAC) rallied from a first set defeat to win the following three sets and take down visiting Mercyhurst University (10-18, 5-10 PSAC), 3-1 (17-25, 25-20, 25-12, 25-19) Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.
The Lakers came out aggressive in the first set, tallying 16 kills to LHU's 13 and making a statement by winning the first set, 25-15 and jumping out to an early 1-0 lead.
After the first set, the Bald Eagles kicked it up a notch and used their own aggressive playing style to overwhelm Mercyhurst and ride the momentum to a four-set victory.
Breanna McDonald (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) led the way for the balanced Lock Haven offense as three Bald Eagles were able to tally double digit kills. McDonald totaled 13 kills while
Gabrielle Stick (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) had 12 kills and
Chloe Williams (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) tallied 11 kills.
Defensively, Stick and
Shaye Whiteman (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) led the charge for LHU. Stick led the team with 20 digs to complete her double-double while Whiteman tallied 19 digs.
Kristen Nealon (Horsham, Pa./Archbishop Wood) had a strong all-around game and had her own double-double for the Bald Eagles, tallying 44 assists to go with 14 digs.
UP NEXT: Lock Haven will stay at Thomas Fieldhouse for the team's next match when they host Bloomsburg University on Tuesday, October 30. That game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. first serve.
