LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University volleyball team (9-16, 4-12 PSAC) fell to the Bloomsburg University Huskies (6-20, 2-14 PSAC), 3-2 (23-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-23, & 17-15) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action on Tuesday night at Thomas Fieldhouse.
The Bald Eagles and Huskies battled out an intense back and forth first set with the Haven coming out on top 25-23. Lock Haven then came from behind in another nail biting second set to take the 2-0 lead heading to the third set by a 25-23 score. The Haven jumped out to an early lead in the third set, but Bloomsburg fought back to eventually win another close set and force a fourth set. The Huskies took control early in the fourth and ran out to a commanding lead, but an inspired comeback from the Bald Eagles fell just short in a 25-23 Bloomsburg win. In the fifth, set the Huskies and Bald Eagles treated the crowd to a show as they battled out yet another tightly fought set before the Huskies took the set 17-15 and the match 3-2.
Highlighting the night for the Haven was
Kristen Nealon (Horsham, Pa./Archbishop Wood). The standout setter racked up 55 assists and surpassed the illustrious 2000 assist mark and now sits at 2012.
Once again, the Haven was very balanced offensively as
Breanna McDonald (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) led the team with 16 kills. Three other Bald Eagles tallied double digit kills as
Gabrielle Stick (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) added 15 kills.
Chloe Williams (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) joined in with 14 kills and
Veronica Morrison (Wyalusing, Pa./Wyalusing Valley) chipped in 12.
The Bald Eagles were strong defensively.
Shaye Whiteman (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) led the defensive charge with 30 digs while Stick tallied 29 digs of her own.
Sparking Bloomsburg to the win was Sarah Gomish who had a strong performance with 24 kills and 11 digs.
UP NEXT: Lock Haven will stay at Thomas Fieldhouse for the team's next match when they host Shippensburg University on Friday, November 2. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. first serve.
