Colegrove strikes quick in first half, Haven tops ESU, 2-0

Shane Colegrove scored twice in just over a minute in the first half, and the LHU men’s soccer team shutout visiting East Stroudsburg, 2-0, to earn a crucial three points in the PSAC standings.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Shane Colegrove scored twice in the first half – just 1:03 apart – and the Lock Haven University men's soccer team (5-5-1, 3-3 PSAC) shutout visiting East Stroudsburg University (6-4, 3-3 PSAC), 2-0, for a crucial three points in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.

With the win, Lock Haven moved back to .500 in conference action, as the Bald Eagles sit 3-3 in the PSAC table. The win pushed LHU to 5-5-1 overall and snapped a three-game losing streak.

Colegrove opened the scoring in the 32nd minute and he made it 2-0 in the 33rd.

Christian Wieand (Elizabethtown, Pa./Muhlenberg) stood out in the midfield and defender Steven Schankweiler (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) led the defensive unit that paved the way for the shutout-win. Lock Haven goalkeeper Camden Cook (Rosedale, Md./High Point) made four saves, including a brilliant diving-stop in the 88th minute.

Beckham Sibiski (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) helped set up LHU and Colegrove's first goal. Sibiski played a long ball in behind the ESU defense, allowing Colegrove to run onto it, before he perfectly chipped it over a charging Warrior-goalkeeper.

The first goal came at the 31:15 mark, and just 1-minute and 3-seconds later is was, 2-0.

Schankweiler got the ball wide and dribbled it to the end line where he cut it back across the goal. The pass found an open Colegrove on the back post and Colegrove left no doubt, firing it low and past the keeper's foot.

Lock Haven led East Stroudsburg, 2-0, at halftime on the two Colegrove goals and the Bald Eagles held strong in the second on the way to the win.

LHU will return to action on Saturday, October 6 when the Bald Eagles travel to Seton Hill for an important PSAC match at 1 p.m.
