GREENSBURG, Pa. – Brian Flatter (Frederick Md./Oakdale) scored three goals in the final 10 minutes of regulation – all on penalty kicks – and rallied the Lock Haven University men's soccer team (5-5-2, 3-3-1 PSAC) back from three-goal deficit, but despite the late rally and two 10-minute overtime periods, LHU and Seton Hill (4-2-5, 1-2-4 PSAC) battled to a 5-5 draw.
Flatter's late-match heroics served their purpose, as the Bald Eagles were still able to earn a hugely valuable point on the road in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.
All three of Flatter's goals came by way of the penalty spot, as he calmly converted three straight in the final 10 minutes of regulation. All three goals came in an eight-minute span after he scored in the 81
st (SHU, 5-3), 84
th (SHU, 5-4) and 88
th (T, 5-5) minute of play.
It was only fitting that today's match went to overtime and ended with each team earning a point, as this contest unofficially stretched across two days. The two teams were originally scheduled to play yesterday (Saturday, Oct. 6) and the game started and got to halftime with host-SHU leading 3-1. The two teams never saw the field for the second half because of inclement weather and after a weather delay of more than two hours, the game was officially halted and postponed. Since the game didn't get to the 70-minute mark, the two teams had to completely restart today from the first minute on and yesterday's first half – including all stats – was erased.
Lock Haven led 2-1 at halftime on goals by
Shane Colegrove (Athens, Pa./Athens) and
Beckham Sibiski (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown H.S.).
Colegrove put Lock Haven up 1-0 in 22
nd minute when he knocked home a pass from Sibiski.
Seton Hill was quick to tie the match at 1-1, but the Bald Eagles had the lead at halftime after Sibiski scored one of his own. Just 1:28 before halftime, he scored after taking a pass from
Brand Brackbill (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata).
Seton Hill tied the match at 2-2 in the 52
nd minute, before taking the 3-2 lead moments later. It was 4-2 in the 63
rd minute and 5-2 in 80
th with just 10 minutes to play.
Jason Keller (Port Matilda, Pa./State College) entered the game in goal for Lock Haven in 80
th minute and made three saves in nearly 30 minutes, including two in OT.
Each team had six shots in the 20 extra minutes of overtime and Lock Haven had several good looks, but neither team could find the difference-maker.
Lock Haven will host Mercyhurst on Friday, October 12 at 3:30 p.m.
