LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Marah Foltz (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield) scored twice in the second half to spark the Bald Eagles rally, as the Lock Haven University women's soccer team (6-2-1, 6-2-1 PSAC) rallied by Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) power East Stroudsburg (7-3-1, 7-2-1 PSAC), 2-1, today in conference action.
With the win, Lock Haven improved to 6-2-1 and extended its win streak to three. The Bald Eagles are unbeaten over their last five games, going 4-0-1 over that stretch.
The win snapped East Stroudsburg's six-game win streak. The Warriors have been the standard in PSAC women's soccer of late and have won the last four conference championships. It served as an Atlantic Region upset as well, as Lock Haven entered the game ranked No. 7, while ESU was tabbed No. 5 this week.
The Bald Eagles dominated the match from the start, but found themselves down 1-0 after East Stroudsburg scored against the run of play in the 16
th minute. The Warriors led 1-0 at halftime.
Foltz tied the match in the 64
th minute as Lock Haven's tremendous pressure and dominance paid off. She ran onto a long pass from defender
Erika Landis (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) and Foltz did the rest, cutting through the defense, before sending a 24-yard shot into the goal.
Foltz did again and found the game-winner late after she rifled a left-footed shot home off a slotted-through ball from
Gabby Kishbaugh (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) with just under five minutes to play.
LHU goalkeeper
Bree Hilty (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) made five saves, as she led an all-around sensational defensive effort. Landis and
Jordan Shoff (York, Pa./York Suburban) played well on defense. Notable performances also came from
Josie Swartz (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) and
Ella Jones (Mohnton, Pa./Reading Area C.C.), who helped pave the way to the win.
With today's win, LHU equaled its win total from last season at six.
Lock Haven will hit the road for a Saturday, October 6 PSAC contest at Seton Hill (3:30 p.m.).
