Volleyball extends win streak, powers past ESU

The LHU volleyball team extended its PSAC win streak by powering past visiting East Stroudsburg, 3-1 tonight in front of a raucous Thomas Fieldhouse crowd.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University volleyball team (8-9, 3-5 PSAC) extended its win streak to three matches after soaring past visiting East Stroudsburg University (16-4, 6-2 PSAC), 3-1, tonight in front of a rocking Thomas Fieldhouse crowd.
 
Lock Haven downed the Warriors (23-25, 25-21, 25-19 & 25-23) as the Bald Eagles have now won three straight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) games and pushed themselves to 3-5 in PSAC action after starting league play at 0-5.
 
LHU opened PSAC Central play Tuesday (Oct. 2) night at Bloomsburg and won. The win over Bloomsburg followed an upset-win over power West Chester last weekend.
 
ESU entered tonight's game having won six of its last seven contests and leading the PSAC's Southwest Division.
 
Leading the way tonight for Lock Haven was reigning PSAC Central Athlete of the Week Gabrielle Stick (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) as she continued her strong all-around play. Stick was able to collect another double-double tonight, tallying a team-high 15 kills to go along with 17 digs.
 
Kristen Nealon (Horsham, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and Veronica Morrison (Wyalusing, Pa./Wyalusing Valley) also collected double-doubles in the match. Nealon led the team with 44 assists to go with her 16 digs while Morrison tallied 12 kills and 12 digs.
 
Breanna McDonald (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) was a force for LHU, racking up 13 kills in the match for The Bald Eagles.
 
Shaye Whiteman (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) and Cassidy Hoover (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) did all they could to lead an outstanding performance by the Haven defense as five different players recorded double-digit digs. Whiteman led the team with 26 digs while Hoover added 16 digs of her own.
                                               
UP NEXT: The Bald Eagles will be right back in action tomorrow (Saturday, Oct. 6) at 1 p.m. when they host Kutztown in PSAC action.
