Women’s Basketball stays red hot, downs Gannon in historic win

The LHU women’s basketball team extended their win streak to six in a road win vs Gannon and secured their first victory at Gannon since 1992.

ERIE, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (7-1, 3-0 PSAC) picked up a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) win over Gannon (5-5, 1-2 PSAC) 76-70 on Saturday afternoon.

In their first matchup since a 67-64 Haven win on December 3, 2016, Lock Haven and Gannon provided the fireworks in an exciting conference showdown. After not beating Gannon since 1992, Lock Haven has now won two straight over the Golden Knights. The victory was Lock Haven's first win at Gannon since November 24, 1992, when the Bald Eagles triumphed, 84-56.

Lock Haven took a slight 33-29 lead into halftime but headed into the fourth quarter facing a 54-53 deficit. The Bald Eagles would fight back and post a huge 23-16 surge in the fourth quarter to win the game 76-70. Down the stretch, the Bald Eagles once again profited from clutch 3-point shooting by Rileigh Devine (Etters, Pa./Red Land) and Ahnera Parker (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) who both calmly knocked down huge three-point shots to help seal the Haven's win.

The high flying Bald Eagles offense saw four players reach double digits led by Devine and Parker who both scored 15. Devine had all her points come in the second half to help guide Lock Haven home. Taylor Leidy (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) and Jalyn Shelton-Burleigh (State College, Pa./State College) both turned in solid days scoring 13 each.

Lock Haven shot a blistering 40 percent from downtown which featured Devine and Shelton-Burleigh lighting it up with three 3-pointers apiece. Rayah Fink (Dover, Pa./Dover) was 2-4 from downtown and provided a key 3-pointer late in the fourth quarter.

In a tightly fought battle on the glass, Gannon held a slight lead in rebounding. The Haven was able to grab the 9-7 lead in offensive rebounds led by Bink Redman (York, Pa./William Penn) and Parker who both fought for three offensive rebounds. Redman and Shelton-Burleigh each grabbed six total rebounds to lead Lock Haven while Redman tallied four assists and Shelton-Burleigh recorded two steals.
