Defense, balanced scoring leads LHU past Shippensburg

Four Bald Eagles scored in double figures and the defense shut down Ship, as the LHU women’s basketball team powered its way to a conference win at home.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Bald Eagles put four players in double figures scoring and The Haven defensive unit stood tall, as the Lock Haven University women's basketball team (5-17, 4-14 PSAC East) powered its way to a key Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East home win over Shippensburg University (5-18, 4-13 PSAC East), 76-65.

Rileigh Devine (Etters, Pa./Red Land) led LHU with 16 points and Bink Redman (York, Pa./William Penn) notched her second straight double-double, finishing with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Kayla Henderson (Philadelphia/Lackawanna College) scored 14 points and Mackenzie Livingston (Blairsville, Pa./IUP) added 13.

Ahnera Parker (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) added eight points and 10 rebounds.

A huge key to the game was the Bald Eagles defensive play. Shippensburg's Ariel Jones entered the game averaging a league-best 21.9 points per game, but Lock Haven held her scoreless until early in the fourth quarter when she finally connected on a free-throw. Jones finished with four points, as LHU also recorded 10 steals and forced 17 turnovers for the game.

LHU led 32-27 at halftime and started the second half on a quick run to stretch the lead, but Shippensburg fought back. Lock Haven held a slim 49-45 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Lock Haven slowly pulled away early in the fourth and held strong for the win.

Lock Haven will head to West Chester on Wednesday, Feb. 14 for a 5:30 p.m. game.
