LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Alex O'Herrick (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) did it all and her all-around sensational individual effort was headlined by four goals which sparked the No. 23 Lock Haven University lacrosse team (1-0) to a 16-10 win over visiting Georgian Court University (0-1).
Today marked the 2018 season-opener for both teams and the Bald Eagles used a dominant second half to pull away from the Lions.
With the win, the Bald Eagles improved to 44-3 at home over last five seasons. That dominating run at home dates back to the start of the 2013 season.
O'Herrick scored four goals, dished out one assist, while recording nine draw controls, eight caused turnovers and five ground balls. Lock Haven's offense was powered by eight different goal scorers including
Dana Laulis (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley), who netted a pair of goals to go along with her seven assists.
Lock Haven led 10-8 at halftime after an exciting opening 30 minutes of play. In the second half, LHU's offense found its groove and the defensive unit took control. For the game, LHU was credited with 17 caused turnovers and the Bald Eagles held an advantage in shots (38-21), ground balls (24-19) and draw controls (18-10).
Emily Gerhart (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) sparked the defensive effort. She had three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Katie Costanza (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) recorded a hat trick and both
Braxtin Reddinger (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) and
Kate Hooper (Perth, Western Australia/St. Mary's Anglican Girls School) scored twice.
Loren Librizzi (Miller Place, N.Y./Millerplace) dished out three assists to go along with a goal.
Last season the Lions were 13-6 overall. GCU went 9-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action and claimed the CACC Tournament Title.
Lock Haven entered today's game ranked No. 23 in the nation. Last season, the Bald Eagles went 9-8 overall and finished Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action at 6-6.
Lauren Marte (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) made five saves for The Haven.
