CHEYNEY, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's basketball team (8-17, 6-15 PSAC) used clutch shooting late in the fourth quarter to force overtime and the eventual victory over Cheyney University (2-23, 2-19 PSAC) by a score of 87-84 behind
Amir Hinton's (Philadelphia/Abington) near triple-double.
Hinton finished the contest with 25 points, nine rebounds, nine assists and four steals.
This marked the last Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) road contest for the Bald Eagles and they did not disappoint as
Matt Cerruti (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and
Marques Jackson (Philadelphia/Monsignor Bonner) hit clutch shots late in the fourth quarter to force overtime at Cope Hall on the campus of Cheyney University.
With 19 seconds left in the second half, Hinton came down the court and found Cerruti who hit a contested three pointer to cut the lead to 75-74. After Cheyney hit two free throws, Jackson stood tall on the free throw line as he got fouled on a three point shot and calmly hit all three free throws to tie the game at 77-77 and ultimately force overtime.
In the overtime period, Cheyney scored first with a fast break jumper in the paint, however Lock Haven responded with two three's back-to-back to take the lead and come away with the victory.
Four other Bald Eagles joined Hinton scoring double digit points including Jackson and
Ra'eese Hunt (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist) who recorded double-doubles. Jackson finished the game with 15 points and 10 rebounds while Hunt netted 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Cerruti and
Justin Henry (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) both chipped in with 16 and 12 points, respectively.
