No. 23 Bald Eagles open PSAC action with total-team effort, drop Rock 13-7

The No. 23 LHU lacrosse team used a total team effort which was sparked by Hayley Kilian, Alex O’Herrick, Katie McDonough and Lauren Marte.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – It was a total-team effort today from the Bald Eagles as the No. 23 Lock Haven University lacrosse team (5-1, 1-0 PSAC) opened Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play with a solid 13-7 win over visiting Slippery Rock (4-2, 0-2 PSAC).
 
Hayley Kilian (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley) dished out eight assists to power the offense and Alex O'Herrick (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) controlled the flow of the game with 11 draw controls. Defensively, Katie McDonough (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) had five caused turnovers and four ground balls, and goalkeeper Lauren Marte (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) backed it all up with eight saves in a sensational winning effort, as LHU dominated every major category in the game.
 
Kilian added a goal in the win go along with her eight assists. Kate Hooper (Perth, Western Australia/St. Mary Anglican Girls School) scored four goals and Katie Costanza (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) netted a hat trick.
 
A huge difference maker in the outcome of today's game was Lock Haven's 16-6 advantage in draws. O'Herrick won 11 of LHU's 16 draw controls.
 
Lock Haven led 6-4 at halftime, but used a strong second half to secure the win.
 
With the win, the Bald Eagles remained unbeaten at home this season (4-0) and since the start of the 2013 season, Lock Haven improved to 47-3 on Charlotte Smith Field.
 
Kilian now has 120 career assists, good for No. 4 all-time.
 
Lock Haven will head to Gannon on Saturday, March 24 for a 1 p.m. PSAC contest.
