LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Despite cold temperatures and snowy conditions, the No. 25 Lock Haven University lacrosse team (3-0) rolled to its third win of the season as the Bald Eagles downed visiting Wheeling Jesuit (1-5) 20-9.
Lock Haven used a 13-goal second half and improved to a perfect 3-0 on the season.
Hayley Kilian (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley) led the offense with eight assists. She now has 105 career assists as she surpassed the 100-assist mark. Kilian added a goal in the win.
Karli Gilbert (Perkiomenville, Pa./Boyertown) netted five goals and
Kate Hooper (Perth, Western Australia/St. Mary Anglican Girls School) added a hat trick.
In all, 10 different players registered at least one goal including
Braxtin Reddinger (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) who had two goals and a team-high three caused turnovers.
The Bald Eagles were credited with 10 caused turnovers including two from
Emily Gerhart (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) who led the defensive effort. Goalkeeper
Lauren Marte (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) made four saves.
Alex O'Herrick (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) was a huge difference in the outcome of today's game as she registered eight draw controls, all which changed the momentum of the game in the second half.
Lock Haven led 7-4 at halftime, but Wheeling Jesuit opened the second half with two goals of their own and cut the LHU lead to one at 7-6 with 20 minutes to play.
The Bald Eagles responded and scored eight straight goals to put the game away.
Today's game capped LHU's three-game season-opening homestand.
