LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team recorded back-to-back shutout-wins over Clarion (4-21, 1-7 PSAC Central) today. The Bald Eagles (19-9, 8-0 PSAC Central) won game one 8-0 (6 inn.) and took game two 8-0 (6 inn.) to extend Lock Haven overall win streak to 12 games.
LHU sits atop of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central Division standings with an 8-0 record. The Bald Eagles are also a perfect 6-0 at home.
Over the two-game sweep, Lock Haven scored 16 runs on 18 hits. Pitchers
Bekah Slattery (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) and
Kayla Gee (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) threw back-to-back one-hitters and combined for 23 strikeouts in 12 innings.
GAME 1: W, 8-0 (6 inn.)
Behind another dazzling effort from Slattery in the pitcher's circle, Lock Haven rolled by Clarion, 8-0 in game one. Slattery struck out 13 on the way to a masterful one-hitter. She walked only two Clarion batters.
Bree Hilty's (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) three-run home run in the second inning highlighted a six-run inning for the Bald Eagles.
Both
Faith Ceely (Troy, Pa./Troy) and
Moriah Lindsey (Woolrich, Pa./Central Mountain) finished with a pair of hits.
GAME 2: W, 8-0 (6 inn.)
In game two, Gee matched Slattery's dominance from game one in the circle. She allowed just one hit and struck out 10. Gee didn't surrender a walk.
Leading 2-0, the Bald Eagles poured it on as the offense broke out in the sixth inning. Lindsey's double to left-center field that drove in three runs highlighted the inning. She was 2 for 4 with three RBIs.
Ceely had another two-hit game as did Hilty and
Amanda Loar (Barto, Pa./Boyertown).
Becca Caputo (Williamsport, Pa./Jersey Shore).
UP NEXT:
Lock Haven will host Pitt-Johnstown tomorrow (Saturday, April 14) in a PSAC Central doubleheader. Game 1 tomorrow is set for a 1 p.m. start. On Wednesday, April 11, Lock Haven swept UPJ, 9-7 and 10-2.
