LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Alex O'Herrick (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) grabbed the game's opening draw control and followed that with 16 more of them as her dominance on the draw helped the No. 22 Lock Haven University lacrosse team (11-5, 7-4 PSAC) cruise past visiting Shippensburg University (7-9, 3-8 PSAC), 21-7, today in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.
With the win, the Bald Eagles finished the 2018 season undefeated at home. LHU's 9-0 mark on Charlotte Smith Field marks Lock Haven's fourth perfect run at home in the last five seasons. Since moving to Charlotte Smith Field at the start of the 2009 season, the Bald Eagles have gone 82-8.
The win also helped LHU lock up a PSAC postseason berth.
O'Herrick finished with 17 draws, helping her become the all-time career leader in draw controls at LHU. She added two goals and two assists.
LHU led 14-4 at halftime.
Eleven different players helped produce LHU's 21 goals including
Katie Costanza (Denver, Pa./Cocalico), who had four.
Ashley Gochenaur (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and
Karli Gilbert (Perkiomenville, Pa./Boyertown) both netted hat tricks. Gochenaur had a six-point game as she also produced three assists.
Dana Laulis (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) scored once and had four assists in a five-point outing.
Three different Lock Haven goalies combined for seven saves and the LHU defense was credited with five turnovers in the all-around dominating victory.
Lock Haven will close the regular season on Saturday (April 28) at Edinboro University (1 p.m.).
NCAA REGIONAL RANKINGS:
Today (Wednesday, April 25), the NCAA released its updated regional rankings and LHU was ranked No. 5 in today's Atlantic Region rankings. West Chester held down the top spot for the second straight week. East Stroudsburg was ranked No. 2, Mercyhurst was ranked No. 3 and Slippery Rock was listed at No. 4.
