Tomorrow's (Saturday, April 7) doubleheader between Kutztown and Lock Haven, at LHU has been moved to Sunday, April 8 (1/3 p.m.).
KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (14-5, 6-2 PSAC East) was able to split the team's doubleheader with Kutztown University (9-9, 3-5 PSAC East) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Divisional play Friday afternoon.
The Bald Eagles fell in game one 3-0 before knocking off the Golden Bears 7-1 in nine innings in game two.
Game 1
Kutztown scored its three game-one runs on nine hits and knocked off the Bald Eagles, 3-0.
John Banes (Springfield, Pa./Cumberland C.C.) had two of LHU's five game-one hits.
Despite the loss, Lock Haven pitcher
Jesse Slinger (Pittsburgh/Youngstown State) finished with seven strikeouts.
Kutztown pitcher Michael Hunter was impressive and held the potent Bald Eagle offense to just five hits.
Game 2
Extra innings were needed in the second game between The Bald Eagles and the Golden Bears as the teams were tied at 1-1 after seven innings.
In the ninth inning, Banes came up huge for LHU with the bases loaded as he knocked a two-run single down the left field line to give the Bald Eagles a 3-1 lead and spark a huge 6-run inning for the Haven.
Liam McArthur (Basking Ridge, N.J./Seton Hall) followed the single by Banes with an RBI double to extend the lead to 4-1.
Cayden Stover (Beech Creek, Pa./Chesapeake College) then stepped to the plate and sent a three-run home run to push the lead to 7-1.
Scott Leitholf (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) was solid for LHU on the hill, going eight innings strong while allowing five hits and no earned runs. He was also able to record seven strikeouts and now moves to 5-0 on the season.
Stover and Banes led the Lock Haven offense as they both had two hits in the game. Stover also led the team with three RBIs while Banes added two.
