Softball opens PSAC Central play with sweep of rival Bloom

The LHU softball team sweep rival Bloomsburg in the Bald Eagles 2018 PSAC Central opener and extended their win streak to six games.

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Lock Haven University softball team (13-9, 2-0 PSAC Central) was able to extend the team's win streak to six games as the Bald Eagles were able to sweep Bloomsburg University (9-12, 1-3 PSAC Central) in Lock Haven's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central Division opener.
 
The Bald Eagles were able to win a tight game, 3-2, in game one before knocking off the Huskies 9-5 in game two.
 
Game 1
Moriah Lindsey (Woolrich, Pa./Central Mountain) hit a two-run home run in the top of the third which helped pave the way for the Bald Eagles 3-2 game-one win.
 
Leading 2-1, Casey Carpenter (Spring Brook, Pa./North Pocono) hit a sacrifice fly to right-center field which pushed the lead to 3-1 in favor of Lock Haven.
 
Pitcher Bekah Slattery (Douglasville, Pa./Daniel Boone) was remarkable in the circle. She struck out 12, walked only one and scattered six hits over her complete game victory.
 
Game 2
Carpenter knocked in five runs to lead LHU to a bigtime win as the Bald Eagles were able to take game two and complete the sweep of the Huskies.
 
Kayla Gee (Williamsport, Pa/Loyalsock) was sensational in the circle for The Haven, going five innings strong while allowing three hits and striking out three. She did not allow a hit until the sixth inning and had a perfect game through her first two innings.
 
Carpenter and Faith Ceely (Troy, Pa/Troy) led the LHU offense as they both tallied three-hit games. Carpenter went a perfect 3-3 in the game to go along with her five RBIs while Ceely went 3-5.
 
Bree Hilty (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) and Traci Kromko (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) both had two hits apiece for Lock Haven.
 
Win Streak
With the sweep today, Lock Haven pushed their season long win streak to six games. After the team's 1-5 start, LHU has gone 12-4 and sits at the top of the PSAC Central Division.
 
UP NEXT/SCHEDULE CHANGES
As of press time, LHU is still scheduled to go to Mansfield tomorrow (Saturday, April 7) for PSAC Central action (1/3 p.m.). Also, as of this afternoon, Sunday's road doubleheader at IUP has been moved to Lock Haven. The doubleheader will start at 1 p.m. The Bald Eagles also announced that they will make up their doubleheader with Shippensburg on Monday, April 16 (2:30/4:30 p.m.).
