LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Behind a Game-1 gem from pitcher
Bekah Slattery (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) and timely hitting in game two, the Lock Haven University softball team (15-9, 4-0 PSAC Central) swept Indiana (Pa.) University (6-8, 0-2 PSAC Central) this afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central action. LHU won the opener today, 4-3 and the Bald Eagles took Game-2, 9-2, to remain atop the PSAC Central standings.
With the sweep, Lock Haven extended its overall win streak to eight games and moved to a perfect 4-0 in PSAC Central action. LHU is the lone remaining unbeaten PSAC Central team. The Bald Eagles are also now a perfect 4-0 at home.
Game 1: W, 4-3
Behind Slattery's 13 strikeouts, LHU picked up the win. She scattered six hits over seven innings.
Freshman
Cassie Querry (Cassville, Pa./Southern Huntingdon) pinch hit in the fourth and drove in a pair of runs, pushing the LHU lead to 3-0.
Moriah Lindsey (Woolrich, Pa./Central Mountain) had two hits in the game and she drove in a run in the fourth as well, extending The Haven lead to 4-0.
Despite three IUP runs in the seventh, Lock Haven held on for the Game-1 win.
Game 2: W, 9-2:
The Bald Eagles broke things open in the fifth inning and scored seven total runs.
In the fifth,
Becca Caputo (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) had a three-run double,
Bree Hilty (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) had a two-run double and
Casey Carpenter (Spring Brook, Pa./North Pocono) hit a two-run home run.
Caputo was 3 for 4 at the plate while Hilty and Carpenter both had a pair of hits in the win.
Pitchers
Kayla Gee (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) and
Taryn Williams (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) combed for eight strikeouts as each recorded four.
Williams recorded the victory, which marked the first of her four-year career. The senior threw the last 3 2/3 innings and didn't give up a hit.

Tomorrow (Monday, April 9), the Bald Eagles will head to Pitt-Johnstown for a PSAC Central doubleheader (2:30/4:30 p.m.). On Tuesday (April 9), LHU will travel to Mansfield before hosting Clarion and UPJ on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
