BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (1-0) got a goal from
Taryn Piano (Temple, Pa./Muhlenberg) and the Bald Eagles opened the 2018 season with a 1-0 victory tonight (Friday, August 24) on the road at Lehigh University (0-1).
LHU dominated the match and finished with a 23-6 advantage in shots.
After a scoreless first half, the Lock Haven pressure finally paid off in the 44
th minute when Piano tipped in a long pass from
Alyscia Smith (Newport, Pa./Newport). It was the only goal of the match, but the only goal LHU needed to secure the season-opening win.
Tamia Roach (Petit Valley, Trinidad and Tobago/St. Joseph's Convent Port-of-Spain), a Preseason All-Conference pick, rattled off nine shots for the Bald Eagles.

Brianna DeAngelis (Doylestown, Pa./Monmouth) finished with four saves, including a huge stop with just 27 seconds left in regulation.
For Lehigh, goalkeeper Paige Innarella was strong throughout and kept the hosts in the game. She finished with a career-high 14 saves.
The Bald Eagles will be right back at it tomorrow (Saturday, August 25) at 5 p.m. when they play Sacred Heart at Lehigh.
