Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey opens season with 1-0 win at Lehigh

The LHU field hockey team opened the 2018 season tonight on the road at Lehigh and the Bald Eagles came away with a 1-0 win thanks to a 44th minute goal from Taryn Piano.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (1-0) got a goal from Taryn Piano (Temple, Pa./Muhlenberg) and the Bald Eagles opened the 2018 season with a 1-0 victory tonight (Friday, August 24) on the road at Lehigh University (0-1).

LHU dominated the match and finished with a 23-6 advantage in shots.

After a scoreless first half, the Lock Haven pressure finally paid off in the 44th minute when Piano tipped in a long pass from Alyscia Smith (Newport, Pa./Newport). It was the only goal of the match, but the only goal LHU needed to secure the season-opening win.

Tamia Roach (Petit Valley, Trinidad and Tobago/St. Joseph's Convent Port-of-Spain), a Preseason All-Conference pick, rattled off nine shots for the Bald Eagles.

Lock Haven goalkeeper Brianna DeAngelis (Doylestown, Pa./Monmouth) finished with four saves, including a huge stop with just 27 seconds left in regulation.

For Lehigh, goalkeeper Paige Innarella was strong throughout and kept the hosts in the game. She finished with a career-high 14 saves.

The Bald Eagles will be right back at it tomorrow (Saturday, August 25) at 5 p.m. when they play Sacred Heart at Lehigh.
