Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Foltz & Swartz’s first-half goals lead Haven past UPJ

The LHU women’s soccer team used a pair of first half goals and downed visiting UPJ, 2-0, in PSAC action.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Marah Foltz (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield) and Josie Swartz (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) each scored in the first half, and goalkeeper Bree Hilty (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) needed just one save to pitch the shutout, as the Lock Haven University women's soccer team (3-2, 3-2 PSAC) dropped visiting Pitt-Johnstown (3-3, 3-3 PSAC), 2-0, today in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.

Lock Haven led 2-0 at halftime on goals from Foltz and Josie Swartz. Foltz took a crossing-pass from Ella Jones (Mohnton, Pa./Reading Area C.C.) and fired the ball far post for the opening goal in the 27th minute. Josie Swartz made it 2-0 in the 31st after she stole the ball from a Pitt-Johnstown defender and sent the ball far post past the keeper.

Despite a lot of pressure and dominating play in the second half, the two first-half goals were all LHU needed to secure victory. For the game, Lock Haven registered 19 total shots.

Janelle Swartz (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) stood out on defense throughout the 90-minute match.

The Bald Eagles will head to Slippery Rock Friday (September 21) for a PSAC match at 4 p.m.
