LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Playing a man down for much of the match, the Lock Haven University men's soccer team (4-4-1, 2-2 PSAC) was edged out, 1-0, on a late goal by visiting Shippensburg University (5-2, 1-1 PSAC) today in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.
After a red card in the eighth minute, the Bald Eagles were forced to play with 10 men for the remainder of the game, but you would never have known it, as Lock Haven controlled the flow of the match and dominated in almost every area.
The difference-maker came late, as Ship scored the only goal of the contest in the 81
st minute. After Alejandro Fernandez's shot hit the crossbar, Patrick Luebben tucked the ball home into an open net from just a yard out.
LHU goalkeeper
Camden Cook (Rosedale, Md./High Point) made two saves, and both
Chase Tackett (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) and
Alec Mapoy (Brick, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) turned in sensational efforts on the defensive side.
Beckham Sibiski (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown H.S) also proved a strong 'two-way' game. The Bald Eagles main goal provider as of late was forced into a more defensive role today and he stood out, while also providing an offense surge at times thanks to two shots.
Lock Haven will head to Millersville for a 7 p.m. PSAC match on Wednesday, September 26.
