Women’s Basketball downed by Shippensburg

The LHU women’s basketball team rallied late, but it wasn’t enough as the Bald Eagles fell to Shippensburg tonight at home in PSAC East action.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (8-8, 4-6 PSAC) got off to a quick start and rallied late in the fourth, but it wasn't enough as visiting Shippensburg University (7-10, 4-6 PSAC) shot 46 percent in the second half and edged out the Bald Eagles, 77-69, tonight in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action.

Rileigh Devine (Etters, Pa./Red Land) led the way with a game and season-high 26 points. She hit a pair of 3's and was a perfect 12 of 12 from the free-throw line.

Free-throw shooting played a big part in the game as the two teams combined to shoot 55 free-throws.

Ahnera Parker (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) netted 15 points and Taylor Leidy (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) scored 13.

Leidy added six assists and three steals.

Jalyn Shelton-Burleigh (State College, Pa./State College) grabbed seven rebounds and Nadia Romanchock (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) pulled down six. Bink Redman (York, Pa./William Penn) had four rebounds, two blocks and a steal.

The first half proved to be a tale of two quarters. Lock Haven jumped all over the visitors early and led 16-7 after the first 10 minutes of play. In the second quarter, Ship responded and outscored The Haven 19-10. At halftime, the two teams were deadlocked at 26-26, setting up an exciting second half of play.

The Bald Eagles rallied down the stretch and cut into the Ship lead, but Lock Haven just couldn't draw even in the final minutes.
