Kelly leads balanced offense, Haven drops Mansfield

The LHU men’s basketball team turned in a strong ‘team’ effort for 40 minutes and it led a solid 88-77 PSAC East victory over visiting Mansfield.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Christian Kelly (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) scored a team-high 22 points, Matt Cerruti (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Archbishop Wood) pulled in a double-double in an all-around solid effort and the two sparked the Bald Eagles effort which led to the Lock Haven University men's basketball team (5-5, 4-3 PSAC East) dropping Mansfield University (1-11, 0-6 PSAC East), 88-77, today in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division play.

The win pushed Lock Haven back to .500 overall (5-5) and the victory helped LHU move to 4-3 PSAC play.

Kelly and Cerruti were two of six Bald Eagles who scored in double-figures as the balanced offensive attack was fueled by everyone that hit court for Lock Haven.

Jihad Barnes (Philadelphia/Philadelphia Electric Charter) added 15 points, Jesse McPherson (Philadelphia/Archbishop Carrol) netted 14, while both Jaylen Washington (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) and Noah Warren (Chester, Pa./Neuman-Goretti) finished with 11 points apiece.

Cerruti knocked down three 3's, grabbed a game and career-high 12 rebounds (10 defensive), dished out five assists and recorded three steals in a big-time outing.

Kelly grabbed seven rebounds and handed out four assists in his solid outing. Barnes registered five assists and four rebounds, and McPherson also helped on the boards with six rebounds.

For the game, LHU shot 51 percent. The Bald Eagles made 13 3-pointers and shot 54 percent from behind the arc. Lock Haven scored 18 points off turnovers and held a distinct advantage in rebounds.

Today marked Lock Haven's first PSAC East game at home this season. LHU opened PSAC East play on Wednesday (Jan. 2) at local-rival Bloomsburg and the host-Huskies edged the Bald Eagles, 77-71 in a thriller. For Mansfield, today's game was the first for the Mounties since a December 30th loss at home vs. East Stroudsburg.

The Bald Eagles will travel to East Stroudsburg on Wednesday, January 9 for an 8 p.m. PSAC East contest.
