SHEPHERDSTOWN, W Va. – The Lock Haven University women's soccer team (3-9-2, 3-9-1 PSACE) defeated host Shepherd (1-13-2, 1-12-1 PSACE) by a final score of 2-1 courtesy of
Marah Foltz's (Mountville, Pa./ Hempfield High) 72
nd minute game winner.
For the first half the Lock Haven attack came out firing recording six shots total forcing the Shepherd defense to make plays to keep the game scoreless.
Shepherd would get on the scoreboard first when they were able to find the back of the net in the 30
th minute of action giving them a 1-0 advantage.
As Shepherd looked to take the 1-0 lead into halftime,
Haleigh Swam (West Minster, Md./ Winters Mill) had other ideas to make sure that was not the case. With just five minutes to go until halftime, LHU was rewarded a corner kick and was able to capitalize.
Taylor Moritz (Harleysville, Pa./ Soudertown High) who was credited with the assist on the play was able to find the foot of swam who beat the Shepherd goalkeeper making the score 1-1 at the break.
The Bald Eagles remained on the attack in the second half recording 10 second half shots to the Rams three.
Marah Foltz (Mountville, Pa./ Hempfield High) stepped up to assure the Bald Eagles would go home happy with a win. In the 72
nd minute Foltz scored what eventually proved to be the game-winner giving LHU a 2-1 advantage with just 18 minutes to play.
Moritz enjoyed a nice day as she recorded the assists on both goals increasing her team lead.
The defensive unit was strong as well denying Shepherd of any real chances after their initial goal.
Karly Trillhaase (Eatontown, Ny./ Monmouth Regional) finished with three saves in helping LHU secure the road victory.
