Men's Basketball rolls past Chestnut Hill in road victory

The LHU men's basketball team hit the road on Saturday afternoon for a non-conference matchup against Chestnut Hill and took home a confident 78-61 win.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The LHU men's basketball team (2-0) travelled to Chestnut Hill University (0-4), rolling to a 78-61 non-conference road win on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Bald Eagles and Griffins got locked into a tight battle in the first half, but the Haven was able to edge out a 35-33 lead as the teams went into the half.
 
Lock Haven found their groove in the second half and outscored Chestnut Hill 43-28 behind 13 points from Christian Kelly (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) and lockdown defense which held Chestnut Hill to just 30 percent shooting. The Haven also recorded five blocks and three steals in the second half.
 
Kelly finished the day with 20 points and led the Bald Eagles in scoring. He filled up the stat sheet grabbing a team high nine boards, dishing out four assists, blocking four shots and recording four steals. Kelly was also a perfect 9-9 from the free throw stripe.
 
Matt Cerruti (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and Jesse McPherson (Philadelphia/Archbishop Carrol) rounded out a trio of Bald Eagles in double figures, recording 18 and 12 points respectively.
 
The Haven advantage was marked by a striking 42-18 lead over Chestnut Hill in points in the paint, and a stark 20-10 advantage in points off turnovers.
 
The Bald Eagles were all over the floor defensively, forcing 25 turnovers including 14 steals. Kelly led the team with his four steals and Trevor Lecuona (Baltimore, Md./ Oakdale) was just behind him with three. Lecuona also led the team in assists, notching five, and chipped in with seven points.
 
Next Up:
The Bald Eagles travel to Carlow on Monday, November 18 for another non-conference matchup. That game is slated for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
