Women’s Basketball tops Nyack in home opener

Parker powers Bald Eagles past the Warriors with career day

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (1-2), downed the Nyack College Warriors (1-1) 88-75 in Saturday afternoon's home opener at Thomas Fieldhouse.
 
The Lock Haven offense was the story of the game, as five different Bald Eagles recorded points in the double-digits. Junior Ahnera Parker (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCasky) led the charge in her season debut, netting a career-high 10 field goals with two threes, another career best. Overall Parker notched 28 points, yet another career-high for the forward.
 
Along with Parker, Marena Lonardi (Elizabethtown Pa./Elizabethtown) added 14 points to increase her total on the season to a team-leading 44 points (14.7/game), and Bink Redman (York, Pa. / William Penn) notched 16. Rileigh Devine (Etters, Pa./Red Land) added 11 of her own, while Jaynelle Robinson (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport (Monroe CC)) rounded out the five double-digit scorers with 12.
 
Haven had a strong defensive outing as well, as Robinson brought down 12 rebounds, bringing her team-high total to 42 rebounds just three games into the season. Redman and Devine chipped in eight rebounds of their own while Lonardi added six as the team tallied 47 rebounds on the night, 31 of which were defensive.
 
The Bald Eagles jumped out to an early lead, holding a 20-10 advantage after the first quarter and a 35-29 lead at halftime. Lock Haven would increase their lead to 10 after three quarters, while thirty plus points from both sides in the fourth would lead to the 88-75 final. Overall, Lock Haven shot 52.4% in field goals and 62.5% from the free throw line.
 
UP NEXT: The Bald Eagles will hit the court again on Tuesday, Nov 19 when they face Penn State Altoona (1-1) at Thomas Fieldhouse.
