CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The LHU women's basketball team (2-3, 0-1 PSAC) was defeated by the No. 13 Cal. U Vulcans (6-0, 1-0 PSAC) 79-56 on Saturday afternoon in their first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup of the 2019-20 season.
The undefeated Vulcans came out fast, taking a 26-12 lead after the first quarter of play. The Bald Eagles rallied for a hard-fought second, holding Cal. U to just 14 points while tallying 13 of their own as they went into halftime down 40-25. Lock Haven stayed neck-and-neck with the Vulcans once again in the third quarter, keeping the home team's advantage at 15 points as both teams added 17 to the scoreboard. LHU was unable to close the gap in the last quarter as Cal. U put up 22 points to take the 79-56 victory.
Juniors Ahnera Parker (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCasky) and Bink Redman (York, Pa./William Penn) led the Bald Eagles in scoring, tallying 14 and 10 points respectively. Marena Lonardi (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown), Lock Haven's freshman phenom, was held to just nine points, but recorded one block and two steals, both of which are season highs for the rookie.
While Lock Haven ultimately out-shot the Vulcans, edging out a 41.5% field goal percentage over Cal. U's 40.9%, the Vulcans recorded an impressive 32.3% three-point percentage to help propel them to the win.
