LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The LHU women's basketball team (7-3, 4-1 PSAC) topped Pitt-Johnstown (7-4, 2-3 PSAC) 77-62 in another Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East-West matchup on Saturday afternoon at Thomas Fieldhouse.
Lock Haven and Pitt-Johnstown were neck-and-neck from the start, trading points back and forth in a tight first quarter as the Mountain Cats held a 19-18 lead after one. The back-and-forth continued into the second quarter, as the Mountain Cats held on to a thin lead, taking a 31- 29 advantage into the half.
LHU broke open the game in the third quarter, scoring 12 consecutive points to start the period and go up by seven points. The onslaught continued as the Bald Eagles tacked on 17 more points while allowing just eight to take a 58-39 lead in to the final quarter. The Mountain Cats pressed hard in the fourth, but Lock Haven held up defensively to secure the 77-62 win.
Rileigh Devine (Etters, Pa. / Red Land) shined, leading the Bald Eagles with 21 points and going a perfect 6-6 from the free throw stripe. Freshman Marena Lonardi (Elizabethtown, Pa. / Elizabethtown) followed with 19 points, shooting a .889 field goal percentage and going 2-2 from the line. Ahnera Parker (Lancaster, Pa. / J.P. McCasky) and Taylor Leidy (Alexandria, Pa. / Juniata Valley) rounded out the top scorers, adding 14 and nine points respectively. Leidy added two steals and seven assists, which ties a career-high.
Defensively, Parker and Jaynelle Robinson (Williamsport, Pa. / Williamsport (Monroe CC)) both recorded eight rebounds, leading the team. Robinson continues to lead the PSAC in rebounds per game with an average of 11.3 and in rebounds with 113, 41 more than the next closest student-athlete. Robinson's 11.3 rebounds per game average is tied for ninth best in the nation.
The Bald Eagles recorded 37 points off the bench, and notched 13 second chance points. During the game-deciding third quarter, LHU shot a .714 field goal percentage and .833 three-point percentage while going 4-4 from the free throw line.
Lock Haven currently sits first in the PSAC East with a 7-3 record.
