MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Behind home runs from
Kayla Gee (Williamsport, Pa./Jersey Shore) and
Bree Hilty (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain), the Lock Haven University softball team closed a busy weekend at the Snowbird Freeze Out Tournament with an 8-0 win over Goldey-Beacom in five innings. The win helped the Bald Eagles split today after they opened the day with a narrow 3-1 loss to a strong Merrimack team.
Today (Sunday, Feb. 17) marked the third and final day of play in Myrtle Beach for LHU. The Bald Eagles went 2-4 overall and split for the second straight day.
Lock Haven opened the day today vs. Merrimack and the Warriors won 3-1.
Merrimack scored its three runs on seven hits.

Bekah Slattery (Douglasville, Pa./Daniel Boone) struck out five. Lock Haven's four hits came from four different players.
In Lock Haven's second game of the day today and the final game of their opening weekend, the Bald Eagles' bats came alive. LHU plated eight runs on nine hits and put the game away after just five innings, as The Haven capped the weekend with an 8-0 victory.
Gee and Hilty homered to headline the offense. Hilty was 2 for 2 and
Becca Caputo (Williamsport, Pa./Jersey Shore) was 2 for 3 with three RBIs.
Gee, who had a pair of hits at the plate, helped her own cause as she was the pitcher of the record in the win. She threw a one-hitter and struck out two.

Gee is 2-0 in the circle after the opening weekend. She had 13 total strikeouts. Slattery, a preseason All-American, finished the opening weekend with 22 total strikeouts. After six games, Caputo is LHU's leader at the plate. She's hitting .353 with four RBIs.

After the season-opening six games this weekend in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, the Bald Eagles will now be off until they make their annual trip south to Florida for spring break. LHU will open play in Florida on Monday, March 11 vs. Purdue Northwest and Charleston (W.Va.). In all, Lock Haven will play 10 games at the PFX Tournament in the Sunshine State.
