No. 21 Lacrosse prepares for opener against Tiffin

The Bald Eagle lacrosse team will open its 2019 season against Tiffin Saturday, February 18.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University lacrosse team kicks off its celebratory 50th season against Tiffin on Saturday, February 23 at 12 p.m. For more information on the celebration or to register for the event click here.
 
The Bald Eagles will begin the season with five non-conference games beginning with the matchup against Tiffin. The Dragons are currently ranked No. 25 in the nation, just four spots behind the Haven in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll. Tiffin opened the season on Friday (Feb. 15) with an 11-6 win over Davenport.
 
Lock Haven then turns to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) schedule in a March 19 rematch of the PSAC quarterfinals with visit a to Slippery Rock, who was voted fourth in the Atlantic region poll. The Bald Eagles will look to repeat the same result as last season when they knocked off Slippery Rock 9-6 to move on to the semifinals.
 
LHU also gets to host two of the premier teams in the nation, West Chester and East Stroudsburg, at Charlotte E. Smith Field, where they went 10-0 last season and outscored their opponents 164-82. Since 2014, Lock Haven has won 46 out of 48 home matches.
 
The No. 21 Bald Eagles will face off against three teams currently in the IWLCA national rankings.
 
First, on April 2 at 4 p.m. 2018 national semifinalist No. 6 East Stroudsburg comes to town in a marquee matchup in the PSAC. In the following game, the team travels to Mercyhurst to battle 2018 PSAC runner-up and No. 15 ranked Mercyhurst. Then in a rematch of the PSAC semifinals, the Haven will be out for revenge in a matchup against 2018 PSAC Champion No. 5 West Chester. That game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start on Saturday, April 20.
 
Season Notes
  • The Bald Eagles finished the 2018 season with an overall record of 13-6 and an 8-4 PSAC record.
  • The Haven return three student athletes who posted over 20 goals last season. Braxtin Reddinger (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) led the way with 33 goals last season while Kate Hooper (Perth, Western Australia St. Mary Anglican Girls School) scored 26 and Karli Gilbert (Perkiomenville, Pa./Boyertown) scored 23.
  • Last season, LHU led the PSAC in assists per game averaging 8.95, including two 14 assist outbursts against Dominican (Feb. 28, 2018) and Embry-Riddle (Mar. 3, 2018).
