Men’s Basketball drops shootout against the Golden Rams

The LHU men’s basketball team fell to West Chester in a high scoring affair on Thursday night.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Lock Haven University men's basketball team (10-13, 7-11 PSAC) fell in a shootout against West Chester University (21-5, 16-2 PSAC), 90-74 on Thursday night in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action at Thomas Fieldhouse.

In the opening minutes, Lock Haven would jump out to a 14-9 lead off the back of seven early points from Matt Cerruti (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Archbishop Wood). West Chester would battle back and build up a lead thanks to stingy defense and strong three point shooting. West Chester would shoot 10-17 from beyond the arc in the first half and led 47-42 at the break.

Early in the second half, the Haven would put together a run behind Cerruti and cut the lead to three points. The Golden Rams, however, would answer the run with one of their own and stretch their lead back to 14 points. West Chester was able carry the lead home, despite the Haven's best efforts, to a 90-74 final.

Offensively, the Haven was once again paced by the red-hot Cerruti  who scored 27 points on 11-15 from the field and a perfect 3-3 from three-point range. Cerruti would grab five rebounds and record two steals in another strong performance.

Christian Kelly (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) was part of the trio in double figures for the Haven scoring 17 points and grabbing 7 rebounds. Jihad Barnes (Philadelphia/Philadelphia Electric Charter) chipped in with ten points and dished out six assists.

The Bald Eagles will host Millersville on Saturday, February 23 in their next game. That game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. tipoff.
