Devine powers women’s basketball past Millersville

LHU Women’s Basketball picked up a crucial late-season conference win over Millersville on Senior Day.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (14-12, 9-10 PSAC) picked up a critical win over Millersville University (12-13, 9-10 PSAC), 66-57, in a game with major Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) playoff implications.

The Haven would honor its three seniors before the game. Ayanda McGill-Jefferson, Jalyn Shelton-Burleigh and Cassidy Lindner were the trio apart of the festivities.

The Bald Eagles would start the game out with a bang and led at the end of the first quarter 25-18. Millersville would hang tough and claw back into the game with an important second quarter. At the half, LHU led just 29-28. In the third quarter, the teams would be locked into a close defensive battle with the Bald Eagles taking a slight 40-37 advantage. The fourth quarter the Haven would make their move led by Rileigh Devine (Etters, Pa./Red Land) who poured in 12 of her 26 total points in the quarter. The Bald Eagles would pull away late for a 66-57 win.

The Haven would see a tremendous shooting night from the junior Devine, who scored 26 on 7-13 from the field. Devine would get 18 of her points on 6-10 from three point range. She would come up huge from the line late in the game finishing 6-8 from the free throw stripe.

Ahnera Parker (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) also scored double digits for the Haven putting in 10 points on 5-9 from the field and grabbing eight boards. Bink Redman (York, Pa./William Penn) would lead the Haven in rebounding with nine. Redman would complete an all-around day with eight points and two assists. Also strong for the Bald Eagles was freshman Taylor Leidy (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) who scored eight points and tallied five rebounds. Leidy would also add three assists to her day.

Up Next: The Bald Eagles will travel to Kutztown on Saturday, March 2 at 1 p.m. for the final regular season game of the year.
