Baseball falls on the road at No. 18 West Chester

The LHU baseball team fell on the road to No. 18 West Chester in both ends of a doubleheader Friday afternoon in PSAC Eastern Divisional play.

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (7-12-1, 1-5 PSACE) fell in a pair of back and forth games to No. 18 West Chester University (14-5, 5-1 PSACE) Friday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action. The Golden Rams outlasted LHU, 6-3 in game one before edging out the Bald Eagles, 8-7 in eight innings in game two.
 
Game one: L, 6-3
 
The Bald Eagles fell in game one to the nationally ranked Golden Rams, 6-3.
 
Lock Haven started the game out hot at the plate as the team scored three runs in the top of the first inning to take an early, 3-0 lead.
 
WCU was able to cut the deficit to 3-2 with a two-run bottom of the inning. West Chester then added two runs in the third inning and two runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-3 lead.
 
LHU did their best to rally against the nationally ranked Golden Rams, but it wasn't quite enough as The Bald Eagles dropped game one, 6-3.
 
Isaac Porter (Beech Creek, Pa./St. Bonaventure) led the way offensively for Lock Haven, going 2-3 at the plate with a double and an RBI. Max Joseph (Marlton, N.J./Harford CC) added a double, two RBI's and a run scored while Jimmy Webb (Montoursville, Pa/Loyalsock) finished with a double and a run scored.
 
Jesse Slinger (Pittsburgh, Pa./Youngstown St) went the distance on the mound for LHU, throwing a complete-game six-hitter while striking out five.
 
Game two: L, 8-7 (8 inn.)
 
Lock Haven was edged out, 8-7 in eight innings in game two of the doubleheader.
 
Trailing 3-0 in the third inning, Joe Zgleszewski (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) belted a three-run home run to tie the game at 3-3. In the fourth inning, LHU took the lead when Liam McArthur (Basking Ridge, N.J./Seton Hall) sent a double down the right field line that cleared the bases and gave Lock Haven the 6-3 lead.
WCU scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to recapture the lead, 7-6, but McArthur came up big again for LHU in the top of the seventh when his second double of the game scored the tying run that sent the game into extra innings.
 
No. 18 West Chester was able to score a run in the bottom of the eighth to edge out Lock Haven, 8-7.
 
McArthur led the way offensively for The Bald Eagles, going 3-5 at the plate with two doubles, four RBI's and a run scored. Webb finished the game 2-4 with a double and a run scored.
 
Zgleszewski finished with his home run and three RBI's while John Banes (Springfield, Pa./Cumberland CC) added a single and scored two runs.
 
Scott Leitholf (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) pitched well for LHU, going 5.0 innings strong while allowing five hits and striking out eight.
 
Next Up:
Lock Haven will get right back at it tomorrow (March 30) when LHU and West Chester go back at it again from Watkins field in Lock Haven. The first game of the doubleheader is set for a 1:00 PM first pitch.
