10-goal second half powers LHU to victory

The LHU lacrosse team picked up its first win of the 2019 season, thanks to a 10-goal second half.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Kate Hooper (Perth, Western Australia/St. Mary Anglican Girls School) scored five goals to lead an offensive unit that powered the Lock Haven University lacrosse team (1-2) to a 16-7 win over visiting Alderson Broaddus (0-5) this afternoon in non-conference action on Charlotte Smith Field.
 
The Bald Eagles also benefitted from a 10-goal second half, as they soared to their first win of the 2019 season.
 
Karli Gilbert (Perkiomenville, Pa./Boyertown) and Caitlin Morrow (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) both recorded hat tricks, while Raleigh Bateman (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) scored twice.
 
Braxtin Reddinger (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford), Krysta Reading (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) and Loren Librizzi (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) all scored once.
 
Librizzi directed the offense with six assists on the way to a seven-point outing. Morrow added three assists and Campbell Brant (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) had two helpers.
 
The Bald Eagle defensive unit forced 22 turnovers in all around stellar outing. The defense stood strong early in the second half and that solid play shifted the flow of the game, and led Lock Haven to the win.
 
Goalkeeper Lauren Girardi (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) made six saves in the winning effort.
 
For the game, Lock Haven held 37-18 shot advantage and controlled ground balls at 28-17. The Bald Eagles dominated the draw as well with 17, which was another key to the win today.
 
LHU will return to the field on Tuesday, March 12 as the Bald Eagles head to Georgian Court for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference contest.
