WILSON, N.C. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (2-4-1) opened the team's annual trip down to Wilson, North Carolina in a unique way as the Bald Eagles battled their way to a 4-4 tie against Alderson Broaddus University (1-8-1) Friday morning.
The tie is the first for Lock Haven since the 2016 season, when LHU tied Mansfield 9-9 as the game was called in the seventh inning due to heavy rain.
Lock Haven got the scoring started in the second inning as the team was able to put two runs on the board thanks to an RBI double by
John Banes (Springfield, Pa./Cumberland C.C.) that was followed by an RBI single by
Liam McArthur (Basking Ridge, N.J./Seton Hall).
The Battlers were able to cut the LHU lead to 2-1 in the top of the fourth on an RBI single. ABU then tied the game briefly at 2-2 in the seventh before LHU tacked on a run in the bottom of the seventh and then another in the bottom of the eighth to take a 4-2 lead.
Alderson Broaddus scored two runs in the top of the ninth to once again tie the game, this time at 4-4. The Bald Eagles couldn't quite muster any runs in the bottom of the ninth as the game was called after nine innings due to time constraints on the field.
For the game, Lock Haven was able to pound out 13 hits from eight different players as the Haven bats were rolling all game long. McArthur led the way for LHU, going 3-4 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored.
Jimmy Webb (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) also had a big day at the dish, going 2-4 with two doubles and an RBI.
Reagan Lawlor (McMurray, Pa./Peters) and
Pedro Peguero (Hershey, Pa./Mercyhurst North East CC) both added two hits as well. Lawlor finished 2-3 with an RBI while Peguero finished 2-4 with a run scored.
On the mound,
