Bald Eagles edge out West Virginia State, 5-4

The LHU baseball team knocked off West Virginia State, 5-4 Saturday morning in the second game of the weekend.

WILSON, N.C. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (3-4-1) knocked off West Virginia State University (1-10) 5-4 Saturday morning in the team's second game of the weekend.

The Bald Eagles and the Yellow Jackets were originally scheduled to play a double header today, however, rain forced the teams to play a single, nine-inning affair.

Lock Haven got the scoring started in the third inning as Liam McArthur (Basking Ridge, N.J./Seton Hall) drove in Demetrius Haskins (Pittsburgh/Taylor Allderdice) with an RBI single to put LHU up 1-0.

Lock Haven then added three runs in the fourth inning to jump ahead 4-0 on WVSU.

West Virginia State was able to tie the game at 4-4 in the sixth with a four-run inning, but Haskins came up big for Lock Haven as he drove in John Banes (Springfield, Pa./Cumberland C.C.) on an RBI groundout to put LHU up 5-4.

The Bald Eagles would hold the Yellow Jackets scoreless in the final three innings to keep the score 5-4 and get the win.

Haskins led the LHU offense, going 2-3 at the plate with two RBI's and a run scored. McArthur also tallied two RBI's in the game.

Banes added a hit and two runs scored while Cameron Kutchey (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg) added a double and an RBI.

On the mound, Scott Leitholf (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) got the nod for LHU, going 5.1 innings while allowing four hits and striking out six.
