Slattery slings, swings LHU into Conference Semis

A huge day for Bekah Slattery both at the plate and in the circle powered Lock Haven to a huge win over Gannon as the team advanced to the Conference tournament semifinals.

SCHEDULE CHANGE: LHU and Kutztown will now play at 10:00 AM tomorrow due to possible rain in the forecast. With a win, Lock Haven will advance to Saturday's Championship game, a loss will send the team to the consolation finals against the winner of Gannon and West Chester tomorrow at 3:00 PM.

QUAKERTOWN, Pa. –
Bekah Slattery (Douglasville, Pa./Daniel Boone) had a huge day both at the plate and in the circle as she led the Lock Haven University softball team (29-16-1) to a huge , 4-2 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Conference Tournament win over the top seed from the West Division Gannon University (26-13) in the second round.

The win pushes LHU into the Conference semifinals, where the Bald Eagles will meet Kutztown University tomorrow, May 3 at 12:00 PM with a chance to move to the championship game.

Slattery was locked in from the start in her remarkable, all-around day. She finished the game tying her career-high with 15 strikeouts while also going 2-3 at the plate with a home run, two RBI's and a run scored as she put her imprint on the game emphatically.

The 15 strikeouts move Slattery to 803 strikeouts in her career, tying her for seventh all-time in Conference history.

She started the game striking out five of the first six batters she faced and allowed only three hits on the day as she completely shut down the 2018 PSAC Champions.

In the top of the third inning with runners on second and third with no outs, Slattery came up huge again for The Bald Eagles as she struck out the side and kept the score tied at 0-0.

In the bottom of the inning, Casey Carpenter (Spring Brook, Pa./North Pocono) broke the 0-0 tie with the bases loaded and two outs when she singled up the middle to score Chloe Kennedy (Elkton, Md./Caravel Academy) and Bree Hilty (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) as LHU took a 2-0 lead.

After Gannon tied it up at 2-2 in the fourth, Slattery delivered offensively for LHU when she slammed a two-run homer to centerfield to break the 2-2 tie and put LHU back in front, 4-2. It was her first home run of the season and her first since April 11, 2018.

The Bald Eagles and the Golden Knights remained at 4-2 into the seventh, where Slattery's 15th strikeout shut the door on this one as Lock Haven knocked off Gannon, 4-2, as they advanced into the conference semis for the second straight season, and clinched a top three finish for the fourth consecutive year.

Slattery and Carpenter each finished the day with two hits and two RBI's while Faith Ceely (Troy, Pa./Troy) also added two hits.

Becca Caputo (Williamsport, Pa./Jersey Shore) added a double while Amanda Criss (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) added a single and a run scored.
