Moritz’s strike leads Bald Eagles past Shippensburg

The LHU women’s soccer team opened conference play with a 1-0 win over visiting Shippensburg.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's soccer team (1-0-1, 1-0 PSACE) defeated Shippensburg University (3-1, 0-1 PSACE) It was a back and forth battle for much of the first half with the majority of the play happening in the midfield. As the first half wore on Lock Haven started to apply the pressure and got the decisive goal in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East division opener.

After firing off 11 first half shots with six of them being on goal, the Bald Eagles were able to finally break through the Shippensburg defense. In the 32nd minute of play Taylor Moritz (Harleysville, Pa./ Soudertown High) sent a curling ball from the corner that was just out of reach for the Shippensburg goalie. Gabbriele Edinger (Lancaster, Pa./ Reading High) was credited with the assist on the play. Edinger received the corner from Moritz then played Moritz back who was able to finish for the goal.

Pacing the offense was Marah Foltz (Mountville, Pa./ Hempfield High) who finished with a team high nine shots, five of them being on goal.

The Lock Haven defense was once again solid all day allowing zero goals for the second consecutive contest. Led by Erika Landis (Watsontown, Pa./ Warrior Run) and Moritz, Lock Haven's defense was able to keep the Shippensburg attack in check. Karly Trillhaase (Eatontown, Ny./ Monmouth Regional) was credited with three saves to keep the clean sheet intact.

Today's win marked the first at LHU for new head coach Maggie Kuhn.
