ALBANY, NY. – The Lock Haven University women's volleyball team (4-2) competed in the "Backpack Program Tri-Match" at Saint Rose University on Saturday afternoon. In the opening game against host Saint Rose the Haven fell, 3-2, but rebounded well to defeat NYACK, 3-1.
Game 1: L, 3-2
Lock Haven dropped a back and forth affair with Saint Rose battling back from losing the opening set to force a decisive fifth set.
Breanna McDonald (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) led the way for the Haven offense notching 18 kills and also adding 19 digs.
Kristen Nealon (Horsham, Pa./Archbishop Wood) led all players with 35 assists. Nealon capped her performance with a strong 20 digs.
Paige Wolfe (Plano, Tx./Plano West) posted a game high 23 digs.
Cassidy Hoover (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle High) and
Madison Goodwin (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle Antrim) recorded 10 and 11 digs, respectively.
Game 2: W, 3-1
The Bald Eagles started strong in the second match of the day and did not look back. After taking the opening set 25-18, the Haven closed out NYACK in four sets to secure the win.
McDonald once more paced the offense notching a game high 18 kills. She would add 14 digs and one block to help LHU to the win. Three total Bald Eagles registered ten or more kills including Gloriah Kroh (Clarion, Pa./Clarion Area) and Hoover who each tallied 11. Hoover also made an impact with 21 digs on the defensive side. Nealon totaled 15 digs as well to go with a game high 41 assists
Wolfe led the Bald Eagles defense recording 26 digs. Goodwin added 18 digs of her own in a strong defensive effort.
Next Up:
The Bald Eagles travel to Daemen for the Daemen Volleyball Classic presented by Millenium Buffalo on September 20-21. LHU will face Salem and Glenville State on Friday (Sept. 20). Then on Saturday (Sept. 21), the Haven plays Wilmington (Del.) and Daemen (N.Y.).
