Men’s Basketball drops hard fought loss to Millersville

The LHU men’s basketball team fell in a tight conference battle against Millersville on Wednesday night.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven university men's basketball team (8-8, 4-7 PSAC) dropped a hotly contested Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Division matchup to visiting Millersville University (9-9, 6-6 PSAC), 83-80, on Wednesday night in Thomas Fieldhouse.
 
Millersville jumped out to their largest lead of the game at 21-15 with 11 minutes to play in the opening half. The Marauders held their advantage and took a slight 40-37 lead into halftime.
 
Early in the second half the Bald Eagles went on their largest scoring run with 13 straight points to take the biggest lead of the game at 53-45. With clutch shooting late, the Marauders were able to take a late lead in the final minutes and held on despite a late charge from the Haven for an 83-80 win.
 
Christian Kelly (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) paced the Bald Eagle attack and finished with 20 total points including a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line. Kelly added three rebounds and two assists to round out his performance.
 
The Haven put four total players in double figures scoring as Matt Cerruti (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Archbishop Wood), Eli Washington (Lancaster, Pa./ Hempfield) and Nasir Campbell (Philadelphia/ Simon Gratz) all reached ten or more points. Cerruti scored 16 points along with four rebounds, Washington added 14 points and a game-high three steals and Campbell chipped in with 12 points.
 
The Bald Eagles assisted on 17 of their 30 made field goals led by Trevor Lecuona (Baltimore, Md./Oakdale) who dished out a team best five and Jihad Barnes (Philadelphia/Philadelphia Electric Charter) who handed out four assists.

The Bald Eagles host Shippensburg in their next time out on Saturday, January 25. That game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. tip.
