Women’s Basketball downed by Kutztown in back-and-forth contest

LHU Women’s Basketball fell to the Kutztown Golden Bears in their first PSAC East matchup of the season

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The LHU women's basketball team (7-5, 4-3 PSAC) was defeated by the Kutztown Golden Bears (7-6, 4-3 PSAC) 66-54 at Keystone Arena Monday evening in Lock Haven's first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East matchup of the season.

Lock Haven jumped out to an early six-point lead, but the Golden Bears quickly erased the deficit, taking a 10-8 lead on a pair of free throws halfway through the first. The Bald Eagles tied it up not long after with two free throws of their own, before pushing ahead 14-10, a lead they took in to the second quarter. LHU continued to pull ahead further in the second, growing the lead to as much as twelve points before eventually taking a 30-23 lead in to halftime.

A back-and-forth third quarter saw Kutztown begin narrowing the lead, outscoring the Bald Eagles 19-13 to cut the deficit to just one point as Lock Haven went in to the final quarter up 43-42. LHU was able to build up a five-point lead in the beginning of the final period of play, but it was swiftly depleted as the Golden Bears offense exploded, notching 23 points, including four threes in the final five minutes. The Bald Eagles were unable to regain the lead, falling to Kutztown by a final score of 66-54.

Jaynelle Robinson (Williamsport, Pa./ Williamsport (Monroe CC)) led the Bald Eagles with 14 points, going 4-4 from the free throw line and adding 14 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season. Robinson continues to dominate the conference in boards, leading the PSAC with 138 rebounds and an 11.5 rebounds per game average.

Three other Bald Eagles recorded in the double digits, as Bink Redman (York, Pa./William Penn), Rileigh Devine (Etters, Pa./Red Land), and Marena Lonardi (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) all tallied ten points. Redman added a season-high 15 rebounds to mark her third double-double of the season.
