Balanced effort pushes Bald Eagles past Mansfield

LHU Women’s Basketball snapped a two-game losing streak with a victory over Mansfield Wednesday night

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The LHU women's basketball team (8-5, 5-3 PSAC East) defeated the Mansfield Mounties (3-11, 1-7 PSAC East) 76-47 at Thomas Fieldhouse Wednesday evening in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East contest. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Bald Eagles.

Lock Haven commanded the court from start to finish, taking the lead at the very beginning of the game and never looking back. By the end of the first, the Bald Eagles had built up an eight-point advantage, taking a 18-10 lead in to the second. Lock Haven poured on the points in the next period, notching 21 points as Rileigh Devine (Etters, Pa./Red Land) nailed three three-pointers to help put the Bald Eagles up 39-22 at the half.

The third quarter was no different, as LHU put up another 27 points to make it 66-34, increasing the deficit to 32 points. The Mounties pushed back some in the fourth, outscoring Lock Haven 13-10, but the Bald Eagles held tight to their significant lead, securing the 76-47 victory.

Devine led the Bald Eagles with 14 points, nailing four of five three-point attempts and going a perfect two for two from the free throw stripe, increasing her PSAC leading free throw percentage to .909. Freshman Marena Lonardi (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) notched 11 points, adding six rebounds and a season-high two steals.

Bink Redman (York, Pa./William Penn), Taylor Leidy (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley), and Ahnera Parker (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) all chipped in with eight points, while freshman Jacalyn Fetsko (Marion Center, Pa./Marion Center) added a season-high seven points.
