MBB: Haven starts quick, soars by Mansfield

The LHU men’s basketball team rolled to a dominant 79-59 win over visiting Mansfield on Wednesday night.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's basketball team (5-7, 2-6 PSAC) soared to a dominating 79-59 win over Mansfield University (4-9, 3-5 PSAC) on Wednesday night in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.
 
The Bald Eagles started hot and jumped all over the Mounties and led 17-2 after just five minutes of play. The Haven continued to pour it on and built up a 42-20 lead at halftime.
 
In the second half, Lock Haven cruised to a twenty point win and led by as much as 30 points to seal an impressive wire to wire conference win over the Mounties.
 
Matt Cerruti (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Archbishop Wood) lit up the scoreboard for a game high 24 points to pace the Bald Eagles. He shot an impressive 8-12 from the field including four three pointers. Cerruti also grabbed nine rebounds and added two assists to his performance.
 
Christian Kelly (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) and Eli Washington (Lancaster, Pa./ Hempfield) combined to form a trio of Bald Eagles in double figures. Kelly notched 19 along with a game high 13 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the year. Washington chipped in with 12 points and was a force defensively grabbing a game high four steals.
 
The Bald Eagles held a decisive 51-33 edge in rebounding including a 14-5 advantage in offensive rebounding.
 
The Lock Haven offense was extremely efficient notching assists on 20 of their 29 made field goals compared to just 10 Mountie assists. Trevor Lecuona (Baltimore, Md./ Oakdale) led all players dishing out nine assists without committing a single turnover.
 
Next Up:
The Bald Eagles travel to Shepherd on Saturday, January 11. That game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. tipoff.
