SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (11-12, 8-10 PSAC East) fell to Shippensburg (18-7, 15-4 PSAC East) 64-72 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East matchup Saturday afternoon.
A quick start helped the Bald Eagles gain an early advantage as they controlled play for most of the first quarter, building up a seven-point lead by the end of the period. The two teams battled it out in the early minutes of the second, holding each other scoreless for two and a half minutes before the Raiders went on a seven-point run to tie the game at 26 apiece. Shippensburg would continue to push ahead as the half came to an end, holding a 42-34 lead at the break.
Shippensburg built their lead up to as much as 11 points in the third quarter, but a 7-2 run from the Bald Eagles in the final five minutes of the period cut the lead to just five as the Raiders led 54-49 going in to the final frame. Another surge from Shippensburg put them up 61-49, and despite a last-minute push from the Bald Eagles the Raiders were able to hold on, securing the 72-64 victory.
Rileigh Devine (Etters, Pa./Red Land) led Lock Haven with 16 points, her fourth consecutive game finishing in the double-digits, while
Marena Lonardi (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) notched 11 points. Lonardi added four rebounds and a career-high four steals.
Rounding out the top scorers was
Bink Redman (York, Pa./William Penn), who added ten points, six rebounds, two steals, and a block.
Jaynelle Robinson (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport (Monroe CC)) led the Bald Eagles with 12 rebounds to increase her PSAC-leading total to 223 (9.7/game). Robinson's 4.0 offensive rebounds per game average ranks in the top 20 in NCAA DII Women's Basketball.
