LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's basketball team (12-11, 9-10 PSACE) got an important Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division win over visiting Bloomsburg University (9-17, 6-13 PSACE), 87-76, on Wednesday night in Thomas Fieldhouse.
The Bald Eagles jumped out on the Huskies early in the opening half and built up a 17-8 lead at the 12 minute mark. The Haven took a slight 40-36 into the break after shooting a blistering 59 percent from the field.
LHU led wire to wire and continued their hot shooting in the second half finishing the night at 56 percent from the field and 50 percent from beyond the arc. The Bald Eagles led by as many as 13 in the second half and cruised home for the 87-76 victory.
Christian Kelly (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) poured it on tonight and led the Haven with his season best 34 points. The 34 points also tied his career high mark from February, 2019 against Cheyney. Kelly knocked down 10-15 from the field and grabbed 11 boards for his seventh double-double of the year.
In total, a quartet of Bald Eagles reached double figures including
Jesse McPherson (Philadelphia/Archbishop Carrol) who racked up 19 points, five rebounds and two blocks.
Matt Cerruti (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Archbishop Wood) recorded 14 points on a perfect 4-4 from downtown and
Eli Washington (Lancaster, Pa./ Hempfield) finished the night with 10 points and handed out five assists.
The Haven held a distinct 17-9 advantage in assists and handed out assists on 17 of their 27 made field goals led by Washington and Cerruti who each dished out five. LHU held a slight 36-32 edge on the glass led by Kelly's 11 boards and
Nasir Campbell (Philadelphia/Simon Gratz) who grabbed seven.
