MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (15-12, 12-10 PSAC East) topped the Millersville Marauders (8-19, 5-17 PSAC East) 74-60 to close out the 2019-20 regular season on Saturday afternoon.
LHU has earned the No. 5 seed for the upcoming Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament and the Bald Eagles will be on the road for the first round, which is set for Monday, March 2. Lock Haven will play at No. 4 seed Shepherd. As of press time, the start time is to be determined for Monday's game.
The Bald Eagles controlled the game from the start, taking an early lead against the Marauders that they would not surrender for the rest of the game. By the end of the first quarter, LHU had built up a 12-point lead over the Marauders. Lock Haven continued to pile on the points in the second quarter, increasing their lead to as much as 20 points as the Bald Eagles began to run away with the game.
The second half was no different, as LHU continued to hold a significant lead over the Marauders in the third quarter, taking a 60-46 advantage in to the final period of play. Millersville was able to cut the Bald Eagles' lead to single digits for the first time since the first quarter, but were no match for Lock Haven's offense as the Bald Eagles sailed to a 74-60 victory.
Freshman
Marena Lonardi (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) led Lock Haven with 19 points, adding nine rebounds and a career-high two blocks.
Taylor Leidy (Alexandria, Pa./Juanitia Valley) continued her hot streak, recording 14 points to mark her third consecutive game in the double digits.
The duo of
Trinity Sumrall (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) and
Jaynelle Robinson (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport (Monroe CC)) rounded out the double figure scorers for the Bald Eagles, notching 11 and 10 points respectively. Sumrall's 11 points, four field goals, and three three-pointers were all season-bests for the sophomore.
Bink Redman (York, Pa./William Penn) added a team-high 11 rebounds, her second consecutive game recording in the double-digits.
Lock Haven's victory over Millersville marked their 15th win this season, which matches their win total from last season.
