LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's soccer team (5-6-1, 3-6-1 PSAC) defeated Shippensburg University (4-7-1, 4-5-1 PSAC), 1-0, today (Oct. 16) in an important Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest.
Kylie Auman (Centre Hall, Pa./Penns Valley Area) made seven saves on the way to her second clean-sheet of the year. Keeping Shippensburg at bay, Auman's effort allowed for the Lock Haven offense to continuing flying.
The LHU offense took chance after chance, logging 10 shots in the first period alone. In the 23
rd minute,
Josie Swartz (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) received a short corner and passed it out to her sister
Janessa Swartz (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata). In turn, Janessa smashed a shot to the far upper corner past goalkeeper Kendra Barlow and Lock Haven took the 1-0 advantage on the brilliantly-struck ball.
Evelyn Ciaccia (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury) and
Hunter McClellan (Grantville Summit, Pa./Troy) kept the pressure on the Shippensburg defense, as the duo combined for seven shots and five on-goal.
Sydney Stahl (Pittsburgh/Keystone Oaks) put in a strong shift on the LHU wing and was a terror to the Shippensburg defenders. She beat defender-after-defender and sparked the Bald Eagles with opportunities from her right wing.
On the back-line
Taylor Moritz (Harleysville, Pa./Soudertown Area High) and
Leah Jensen (Harrisburg,Pa./Susquehanna Twp.(Concord)) paced the defensive effort, thwarting the Shippensburg attack at every opportunity.
