WSOC: Bald Eagles fall short at #21 West Chester

The LHU women’s soccer team took to the road today upset-minded, but fell short in the second half.

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's soccer team (5-7-1, 3-7-1 PSAC East) took to the road today and fell to No. 21 West Chester University (9-2-1, 9-2-1 PSAC East), 4-1, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup.
 
The Bald Eagles got off to a flying start in the opening five minutes, when Eva Stoessel (Grantville, Pa./Lower Dauphin) bagged her third goal of the season on an assist from Leah Jensen (Harrisburg,Pa./Susquehanna Twp.(Concord)).
 
West Chester responded quickly in the 20th minute and tied the game at 1-1 on a goal by Maggie Lena. The two sides remained locked at 1-1 until the 71st minute when Madison Bowman broke the tie and scored the eventual game-winner to give West Chester the 2-1 advantage. West Chester added two more goals in the final 10 minutes to collect the 4-1 win.
 
LHU goalkeeper Kylie Auman (Centre Hall, Pa./Penns Valley Area) made eight saves in the effort, but the relentless Golden Ram attack fired off 23 shots on their way to four goals.
 
Senior midfielder Josie Swartz (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) notched three of the eight LHU shots on goal.
 
Next Up:
The Haven finishes the week on the road at Bloomsburg on Saturday (Oct. 23) night. The Bald Eagles matchup with the Huskies is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
